This course introduces to the principles, concepts, and practices of Primary Health Care (PHC) as promoted by the World Health Organization following the historic Alma- ata Declaration. It focuses on the delivery of essential health services that are accessible, affordable, and acceptable to individuals, families, and communities.
The course emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, community participation, appropriate technology, intersect-oral collaboration, and equity in health care delivery. Students will learn how primary health care systems function at community and facility levels, especially in developing countries, and how health workers contribute to improving population health outcomes.
